Assas Association for Arts and Culture and Dar El-Nimer for Arts and Culture, in partnership with Al-Akhbar newspaper and Al-Madina Theatre, are pleased to invite you to Mohammad Bakri in Beirut as part of Palestinian Week.

A series of events will be taking place from the 23rd until the 29th of September in the presence of the acclaimed Palestinian actor and director, Mohammad Bakri.

The program will include some of the following at Al-Madina Theatre:

‘Hanna K.’ a film screening by director Costa Gavras (23rd of September) ‘Al-Moutasha’el’ (The Pessoptimist), a play by novelist Emile Habibi (24th of September).

Programs taking place at Dar El-Nimer will include:
‘Jenin Jenin’ and ‘Private’, which will be amongst the films screened by director Mohammad Bakri (between the 25th and the 28th of September).Nidal Al-Achkar will also be joining Mohammad Bakri for an evening of poetry, where they will be reciting poems by Mahmoud Darwish (29th of September).

Mohammad Bakri is one of the most prominent actors of the Palestinian theatre. He has committed himself to the people’s concerns and their suffering around the world.

He has received awards for one of his best-known works, ‘Al-Moutasha’el’ (The Pessoptimist).
His career began in 1983 when he appeared in the film ‘Hanna K.’, directed by Greek director Costa Gavras. He also starred in several Arab and international movies.
Bakri also worked alongside the likes of Italian director Saverio Costanzo, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Michel Khleifi and Rachid Masharawi.
Mohammad Bakri also directed films such as ‘1948’ (1998), which records the suffering of 50 years of the Nakba, ‘Jenin Jenin’ (2002), a series of testimonies by survivors of refugee camps following the Israeli invasion of 2002, which resulted in his trial by the Israeli government, which also led to prevent him his film and to be prosecuted.
