Gaza: When Bones Become Dust

"The "March of Return" demonstrations began on the 30th of March in the besieged Gaza Strip and are still ongoing to this day. The massive use of violence by the Israeli forces resulted in the death of more than 100 protestors, while thousands were injured.

Médecins sans Frontières' clinics received a huge influx of injured people, where the bone literally turned to dust in some cases. Although patients are stabilized through emergency operations, most will require additional operations and long-term rehabilitation.

MSF - as a medical humanitarian independent organization - has been working in Palestine since 1989 and in Gaza since 2000. In Gaza, The organization provides reconstructive surgery and specialized care for burns and trauma patients, such as dressings, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Due to the current needs, MSF has expanded its work to 5 clinics and 4 surgical team in the besieged strip of land.

The speakers of this session will be:
-Dr. Maher El Charif, Head of Research Department at the Institute for Palestine Studies
-Jehan Bseiso, Executive Director of MSF Lebanon
-Dr. Ghassan Abu Sitteh, Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Division at the American University of Beirut Medical Center

The session is followed by open Q&A.

This event is a part of a series of sessions MSF holds regularly featuring a variety of topics and thematics, entitled "MSF sessions".
