A screening of the film “The Singing Sheikh” by Heini Srour, which highlights the life and creativity of the great artist Sheikh Imam.

The film screening will be followed by a meeting between the director and artist Ahmad Kaabour to talk about her cinematic experience, specifically about the subject of the film.

A rarely-seen documentary on Sheikh Imam, the legendary and frequently imprisoned Egyptian folk musician whose political songs fearlessly indicted the ruling classes.

Heiny Srour, born in Lebanon in 1945, Henny studied Social Anthropology in Paris and later worked as a journalist and film critic. She is interested in Third World cinema and the role of Arab women in revolutions where she often films under danger, dealing with social justice and women’s issues.

Ahmad Kaabour is a Lebanese musician and actor. He launched his first album “Anadikom” in 1975. It was followed by nine albums, the last of which was “Lamma Tghibi”. He composed songs and soundtracks for more than twenty plays for children, most of which were for the Lebanese Puppet Theater.
