Womanhood, an Egyptian Kaleidoscope by Florie Bavard

Filmed in 2015 in Cairo, “womanhood, an Egyptian Kaleidoscope” is an interactive documentary, an ABC on Gender. Presenting a kaleidoscope of 15 Egyptian women’s perspectives and personal narratives, the film works, along with the women involved, to shed light on chosen words.

They are authors, actresses, bloggers, filmmakers, humanitarians, musicians, photographers, psychiatrists, researchers, students, teachers or writers. 15 Egyptian women born between 1931 and 1995, who have one thing in common: being confronted with the question of Gender in their social activity (professional life, volunteering, artistic, academic or literary productions). Each interviewee personally knew at least one other participant: each encounter led to the other.
Every woman gave her vision on selected words: the website gathers those testimonies.

Hence this documentary has an Archive dimension: through their interviews those participants question the current stereotypes imposed upon them, while reflecting upon the gendered roles in the (post)revolutionary process.
This project refers to Post-colonial Studies, and analyses how Visual Anthropology offers new means to convey those narratives

The event will start with a brief presentation of the project by the film’s director, Florie Bavard. Eight extracts from the interactive documentary will then be screened (50 mins). The screening will be followed by a discussion between Florie Bavard, Benjamin Daugeron (Producer) and the audience.
