When Myth Becomes History by Dr Assaad Seif

A talk by Dr Assaad Seif entitled: When Myth Becomes History: Nation States, ideology and the Archaeological Narratives.

The talk will be articulated around themes related to the formation process and the legitimization of the Nation States through the recalling process for ancestors, history and archaeology.
It will tackle the beginnings of this dynamic in Europe then in the Middle East by taking some case studies from France, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan.
In conclusion, Dr Seif will expose his experience as felt when he interacted with Larissa Sansour’s work.

Dr Assaad Seif is an Associate Professor at the Lebanese University, he holds a PhD in Archaeology, Ethnology and Prehistory from Paris 1 University Pantheon-Sorbonne. Dr Seif occupied the position of Director General ad interim at the Directorate General of Antiquities where he followed the post-war reconstruction of Beirut and Nahr El-Bared Camp.
