Un Certain Nasser by Badih Massaad and Antoine Waked
This film is the compelling journey of iconic Lebanese filmmaker Georges Nasser who tells his own story of unprecedented success, struggles and disappointments. In 1957, he directed ‘Where to?’, the first film to represent Lebanon in Cannes Film Festival’s official competition. In 1962, Nasser would replicate the same remarkable feat with ‘Le Petit Etranger’, also making it to the Cannes competition. Struggles and disappointments would follow. In 1975, he shot ‘One Man Wanted’ in Syria. Although the film starts as a success, the eruption of the Lebanese Civil War halts his career. Undefeated, Nasser would turn his attention to community work, fighting for the creation of a syndicate for cinema technicians and teaching new generations the art of filmmaking.
