Gate #5 by Simone El Habre

'Gate #5' is the second documentary from award‐winning Lebanese director Simon El‐Habre ('The One-Man Village'). The film follows truck drivers whose lives revolve around waiting at the city’s port, which is closely intertwined with Lebanon’s history.

The film is a journey through time and space. It retraces the life story of Najm and other Lebanese truck drivers, from the late 1960s until today; a path marked by rural/urban migration, civil war and changes in the economic system. Najm traded his truck for a taxicab. His companions never left the port although they struggle to make ends meet.

This screening is organised in partnership with Abbout Productions and will be followed by a Q&A with director Simon El Habre.
