Fouad Elkoury: Four Shorts

In the framework of the public program of 'La Mer Patrie', Dar El-Nimer for Arts and Culture invites you to the screening of four short films by Fouad Elkoury.

The Wandering Myth | 2001 | 15min
Language: English with French subtitles.

This video features the opening of an exhibition by Robert Frank in Madrid. It was shot in one day in June 2001, without the intention of making a film, but rather of recalling a moment. It shows Robert Frank at a cocktail party given at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and later with his friends having dinner.

Satyricon | 2002 | 8min
Language: Arabic with English subtitles.

When Samir Khaddaj exhibited in what was the City Palace’s avant-garde cinema (the Egg) built in 1965 and now left as a ruin, Fouad Elkoury couldn’t resist filming the show. The camera is here in the place of the eye. It acts exactly like a spectator would, looking at the works generally, then approaching one piece to see more details. In the background is the voice of those who helped the artist in the scenography.

Civil War | 2012 | 19min
Language: Arabic with English subtitles.

A film on the post-war period. A man and a woman are in a museum and remember; two intellectuals are discussing during a boat trip. All speak of the war, and by extension, of wars that city people experience, heavy shelling, desperate running and shelters.

Nothing to Lose | 2018 | 18min
Language: Arabic with English subtitles.

The loss is at the heart of this video work. It is the story of Palestine, of the mother, of the beloved, of convictions. All structured around a poem 'One Art' by Elisabeth Bishop.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Fouad Elkoury.
