[5:30pm - 7:00pm] Sacem | Discussion
Sacem is a leading Collective Management Organization, present on the international scene since 1851 and in Lebanon for the past 80 years. Its main mission is to collect and distribute the royalties of more than 160,000 composers, authors and publishers throughout the world. While it possesses the most important Francophone repertoire in the world, Sacem also manages international works, and possesses the most important Arabic-language repertoire globally. In addition, its cultural aid department supported close to 2000 projects internationally in 2017.
Within this context, a lively roundtable discussion will focus on a number of major industry issues. Does a culture of authors’ rights currently exist in the Arab world, and what form does this take? Why is there such an urgent need for Arab artists and creators of all genres to join collective management organisations and register their works? In what ways does Sacem innovate in order to maximise the value of authors’ right online? These are just some of the questions we will raise over the course of the event alongside speakers Esq. Samir Tabet (Director - Sacem Lebanon), Habib Achour (Sacem - International Department - MENA), Tania Saleh (musician / singer), Imed Alibi (musician).
