SCREENINGS | 'In Between Wars' & 'Lego House' by Yara Borrello

  • Dar El Nimer for Arts and Culture Clemenceau Bayrut, Beirut Governorate Lebanon (map)

Yara Borrello is an Italian-Lebanese filmmaker who graduated from USJ-IESAV in 2017, and she has so far directed four documentaries.

'Lego House' tells the life story of an Iraqi artist through his artworks and how the wars in his homeland and Syria took its toll on his profession, as well as his personal life. Throughout the film, the artist takes us on a journey of emotions as he recounts his own story using a piece of art, a small house, that he made.

16min | In Arabic with English Subtitles

‘In Between Wars’ presents Mahmoud Ramadan, one of the Palestinian refugees who had moved to Lebanon starting from 1948 and left to refugee camps in Syria after the Israeli invasion of Beirut in 1982. These refugees were obliged to return to the camps of Lebanon and neighbouring countries after the war on Palestinian refugee camps in Syria. Mahmoud’s longing for Syria and its camps is, oddly enough, similar to his eternal dream of returning to Palestine.

17min | In Arabic with English Subtitles

The screening is followed by a Q&A with director Yara Borrello.
