Waves '98 | Ely Dagher

Disillusioned with his life in the suburbs of segregated Beirut, Omar's discovery lures him into the depths of the city. Immersed in a world that is so close yet so isolated from his reality that he eventually finds himself struggling to keep his attachments, his sense of home.

Director Ely Dagher was born and raised in Beirut. Ely Graduated with an MA in New media and contemporary Art Studies from Goldsmiths College in London. He has been active in the art world working on various projects juggling between different points of identification and visual structures, from surrealism, science fiction and the occult.

In 2015 Ely’s short film “Waves ‘98” was screened all over the world in renowned festivals such as Sundance and TIFF and was awarded the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 68th Cannes Film Festival.

Silence | Chadi Aoun

In a fanatic dictatorship, modern dance is the secret code of the silent resistance. At out-of-the-way places in town, young people celebrate the hidden joy of life with their bodies, to cope with the terror they experienced. 'Silence' is an introduction to a dysfunctional society about to implode.

Born in Beirut, and raised under the MENA sun, Chadi Aoun grew up influenced by multiple cultures. A perfectionist by design, and a storyteller at heart, drawing and animating naturally developed into hobbies. Add to that an insatiable love for dance and movement; he swirls between the art of movement on paper as much as on stage.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Chadi Aoun
