SCREENING | 'My Father is Still a Communist' by Ahmad Ghossein

  • Dar El Nimer for Arts and Culture Clemenceau Bayrut, Beirut Governorate Lebanon (map)

Maream is the mother of 4 kids, her husband Rachid worked abroad for more than ten years. From 1978 to 1988, Mariam's correspondence with her husband happened through audio cassettes that she sent with travellers.

The tapes provide intimate and personal details of how a relationship evolves between a couple through the passing of time, and also how it may be changing, challenged, and also understood as a direct consequence of the political climate of the country where Maream leads her everyday life. She is trying to restore her memory while building her house and watching the kids growing up in the absence of their father.

A Q&A with director Ahmad Ghossein will follow the screening.
