SCREENING | 'Blessed Benefit' by Mahmoud Al-Massad

  • Dar El Nimer for Arts and Culture Clemenceau Bayrut, Beirut Governorate Lebanon (map)

Ahmad, a construction worker, gets tangled in an unfortunate business laptop deal leading him to prison for fraud. Frightened for his family and worried about an ambiguous future among fraudsters, he spends his days in jail waiting for an appropriate outcome.

However, Ahmad’s straightforwardness, sense of humour and sharp mind help him make friends and find tranquillity in the daily rhythm of prison life. Far from all the obligations of the outside world, where food and drink are not a worry and where no cell phones keep ringing, Ahmad gradually feels something that he's never experienced before: liberty. He realises that life in prison could be better or easier than the one he has outside.

This screening is part of the Jordanian Film Month at Dar El-Nimer, in partnership with the Royal Film Commission – Jordan
