DAR SAMAA’ | ‘In Search of Asmahan’ by Mahmoud Zibawi

  • Dar El Nimer for Arts and Culture Clemenceau Bayrut, Beirut Governorate Lebanon (map)

During her lifetime, Asmahan stayed in the shadows and occupied very little of the spotlight. The princess/singer recorded a limited number of songs and her career in cinema was limited to two films. However, her death brought her great fame that she had not enjoyed during the career which spanned between the beginning of 1931 and the summer of 1944. Asmahan left this world early, but her personal life became an obsession of the press two years after her death, creating a timeless legend. This session of Dar Samaa' will chronicle Asmahan's career away from hearsay and present excerpts of songs that showcase her personal and public journey.

Developed and presented by Mahmoud Zibawi and organised by IRAB Association for Arabic Music.
