‘My Love Awaits Me by the Sea’ is a poetic documentary narrating the story of the director who takes the first-time journey back to her homeland, Palestine. She leaves a secluded reality and follows a lover whom she has never met, Hasan, a Palestinian artist who discovers a beautiful and utopian world. Fairytale and reality are woven together to ask the question about the elusive place, and the need to believe in dreams.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between Mais Darwazah and Rima Mismar (AFAC).
Mais Darwazah is a Palestinian, Syrian and Jordanian filmmaker who works out of the Arab region. She has completed several experimental films and her first feature-length documentary ‘My Love Awaits Me by the Sea’, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received several regional and International Awards. She is currently working on her next feature film on the subject of violence.
Rima Mismar completed her studies in Communication Arts at the Lebanese American University (LAU) after which she had a ten-year film critic career. In 2011, she joined the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) as the Film Programs Manager and oversees the general call and special film programs. In early 2015, she was appointed Deputy Director for AFAC.
