THE MAD DOG OF THE DESERT

MOHAMED GORKA

20 February 2019 - 28 February 2019

The Mad Dog of the Desert is an art intervention by artist Gorka Mohamed.

Spanish-Iraqi artist Gorka Mohamed is interested in questioning the stereotypes and cliches of Arab culture projected by the West and vice versa through popular culture and mass media. Through his art practice, he coveys the existential frustration of belonging to a complex identity. In his paintings and drawings, one can find certain anxiety to visually unravel the different weaves and layers of his social environment. The artist attempts to reflect on what psychologically affects human beings in a socio-cultural reality and present toxics of humanity as a means to a remedy.

Gorka Mohamed (b. 1978) lives and works between the United Kingdom and Spain. He obtained his BA from the Escola Massana in Barcelona and received his MA in Fine Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London.
